대외경제정책연구원(KIEP)은 미국 아시아소사이어티 재단과 공동으로 1991년 9월 3-4일 이틀 동안 동북아시아 경제협력에 관한 지역 포럼을 개최했다. 본 포럼은 동북 아시아 경제의 특징을 분석하고 경제협력을 위한 잠재지역을 확인하는데 목적이 있다. 또한 이 자리는 아시아 국가들의 경제협력을 위한 방법과 역할을 결정하는 시도가 되기도 했다.

대외경제정책연구원(KIEP)은 1990년 6월 21~22일 이틀 동안 아시아태평양 경제협력에 관한 국제회의를 개최했다. 본 포럼은 아시아태평양 경제협력을 위해 기여 잠재 지역과 비젼을 공유하고, 이러한 협력을 위한 제도적인 대안과 방법을 검토하는데 있다. 23명의 저명한 연구원과 학계인사들 뿐만 아니라 아시아태평양 국가들의 정부 정책 결정자들이 본 포럼에 참가하여, 아시아태평양 경제협력을 위한 통찰력 있는 의견을 제공하는 자리가 되었다.
