Revisiting China’s Economic Slowdown

Chinese economy grew at 6.6% in 2018, which is the lowest level since 1991. Looking at the breakdown of GDP expenditure, Chinas consumption remains a main driving force for GDP growth while investment was in overall slump, growing by only 2.14 percent. Net exports have shrunk due to deterioration of external conditions. However, the Chinese government is taking the challenges seriously and will increase its grip on the economy. Given the Chinese domestic market expansion and fiscal stimulus, the concerns about the Chinese slowing down seem to be overstated.
