Voters will soon elect a new leader for South Korea, who will shape the country’s economy, domestic politics, and foreign policy for the next half-decade.
"Unpacking South Korea's 2025 Presidential Election," a special event from the Korea Economic Institute of America, will help attendees better understand the fault lines in the upcoming election, identify key issues for voters, and interpret what each leading candidate could mean for the U.S.-South Korea relationship if they win.
KEI President and CEO Scott Snyder will moderate a discussion between three leading U.S. and South Korean journalists who will offer informed, on-the-ground perspectives. Panelists include Michelle Ye Hee Lee from The Washington Post, Eunjoong Kim from The Chosun Ilbo, and Yoojin Kim from Kyunghyang Daily News.
Their conversation will explore the factors shaping the election, including economic challenges, national security concerns, Indo-Pacific regional dynamics, along with generational and other divides among the electorate.
KEI will host this hybrid panel event May 6, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST at its DC office and livestream on the KEI YouTube channel.
