KIEP would like to invite papers on "The Problems of Corporate Investment in Korea."
The author(s) will present their paper(s) at the Asian Economic Panel meeting on 12-13 October 2005 in Sydney,
Australia. The paper, after a revision if needed, will be published in the Asian Economic Papers of MIT Press.

One of the noticeable changes in Korean economy after the 1997 exchange crisis is downward swift of corporate
investments, particularly in plants and equipments. Some argue that this trend reflects changes in corporate
governance, changes in the way of doing business and management, and other changes such as in share
compositions and management objectives, and so on of post-crisis Korean economy. In addition, the changes in
commercial banks lending behavior and the changes in corporate owners mindset and perceptions are also thought
to be the cause of the downward shift. Both negative and positive evaluations have surfaced concerning the downshift
in corporate investments. The paper is to deal with this important issue through "empirical investigations."

All expenses for the invited author(s) will be borne by KIEP and an honorarium will be also paid.

Interested scholars and researchers are invited to send a 2-3 pages research plan by June 6. For inquiries,
contact Dr. Chan-Hyun Sohn at chsohn@kiep.go.kr or Ms. Jung Sil Kang at jskang@kiep.go.kr.
