The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held an international seminar titled "Global Great Transformation and Food Security International Seminar" at 1 p.m. on September 7, 2022 (Wednesday) at the Orchid Room of the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul. This forum was a part of the economic security seminar series conducted by KIEP.

Professor Chang-Gil Kim of Seoul National University, Director Shengyao Tang of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Director Marian Yun of the WFP's Korea Office, Professor Jeongbin Lim of Seoul National University, Professor Yun-shik Kim of Gyeongsang National University, Dr. Jin Kyo Suh of KIEP, and other global experts in the field of food security, attended the event.

President Heungchong Kim of KIEP explained in his opening statement that the global food security crisis had occurred due to major events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, and that it was time to discuss the issue of global food security as recent droughts and heat waves are threatening food prices not only in developing countries but developed economies as well.

President Heungchong Kim said that strategic crops such as wheat and corn are expected to show global yield losses this year, bringing the population suffering from food security threats to over 2.3 billion worldwide, and would require coordinated response from the international community.
