ABOUT

Korea National Center for APEC Studies

Background

Korea National Center for APEC Studies is a government-funded economic research center affiliated with the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), established to foster research and academic discussion that support the broader APEC mission of regional economic integration in the Asia Pacific region. During the first APEC Leader's Meeting held in 1993 in Seattle, APEC members agreed to invest in research institutes to promote greater academic collaboration on key regional economic challenges as part of the “APEC Leaders’ Education Initiative.” In line with the Initiative, APEC Study Centers have been established in all APEC member economies to facilitate cultural and intellectual exchanges in an efficient manner. In December 1994, KIEP was designated as the APEC National Study Center by the secretariat for Korea's Official Pool of International Economists. Since then, the Center has continued its cooperation with other institutions and government organizations to foster innovative and inclusive growth in the Asia Pacific region.
