About President
Dr. Siwook Lee began serving as president at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy in July 2023. With a distinguished background in economics and academia, Dr. Lee brings a wealth of expertise to his leadership at the KIEP.
Dr. Lee's academic journey commenced with a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Yonsei University, followed by a Master's degree from the University of Paris IX, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan. His academic pursuits provided him with a profound understanding of economic principles and methodologies, laying a robust foundation for his subsequent career in academia and policy research.
Before becoming the KIEP’s President, Dr. Lee has held various academic and research positions, each contributing to his expertise in economic policy analysis and development. Notably, he served as Dean of Planning at the prestigious KDI School of International Policy, where his leadership played a pivotal role in shaping the institution's strategic direction and academic programs.
Beyond his academic roles, Dr. Lee is recognized for his prolific research contributions, with numerous publications in esteemed economics journals. His research interests span a broad spectrum, including the impact of tax treaties on FDI, the dynamics of economic growth through exports, and the intricacies of in-house service activities within manufacturing firms.
As President of the KIEP, Dr. Lee spearheads the institute's efforts to provide comprehensive policy recommendations and analysis on foreign economic issues. Under his guidance, the KIEP remains a trailblazer in shaping both domestic and international economic policy dialogues, contributing significantly to the Korean government’s economic policy-making processes on both national and global scales.
