The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a seminar titled “New Vision for Future Cooperation in the 2.0 Era of Korea-Mongolia Relations” at the Shilla Hotel, Seoul on December 8 (Tue). The event, hosted by KIEP and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Embassy of Mongolia in Korea, attracted experts from home and abroad to look back on the 30-year diplomatic relations between South Korea and Mongolia and seek cooperation directions and strategies for the next 30 years.

Dr. Kim Heungchong, president of KIEP, presented a future vision of win-win cooperation between Korea and Mongolia in his opening remarks. President Kim emphasized the importance of human resource exchange, together with cooperation in agriculture, livestock, energy, manufacturing, and ICT, all sectors in which Mongolia has high demand and Korea possesses a competitive edge.

The first session, chaired by Park Jung-ho, Director of the New Northern Policy Department, dealt with Korea's investment in the Mongolian manufacturing sector and the need for local production in Mongolia. During the second session, chaired by Director Jeon Eung-gil, head of the New Northern Trade Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the direction and tasks ahead for cooperation between Korea and Mongolia were examined based on Mongolia's demand for cooperation. The third and final session was chaired by Jeong Minhyeon, associate research fellow at KIEP, on the theme of "direction and task of cooperation in manufacturing and ICT fields."
