The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) hosted a seminar titled ‘Asian Economic Panel (AEP)’ at the Hotel President in Seoul on March 19-20, 2024. The Asian Economic Panel has been holding three international seminars annually with scholars from the United States, Europe, and Asia. The first seminar of 2024 was held in Seoul.

The AEP is a joint economic panel of Columbia University’s Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). It contributes to the formation of a network of researchers discussing key economic issues in Asia and researching emerging issues and plays a function and role in publishing their research results in the journal, Asian Economic Papers.

A total of 11 papers were published, starting with Dr. Namseok KIM’s paper on ‘Protectionism of Voters in the Philippines and Thailand: A Comparative Approach to the Political Economy of Protection’ at KIEP. Professor Maria Joy V. Abrenica of the University of the Philippines and Dr. Leo Krippner of the Singapore Management University also attended and engaged in in-depth discussions.

More than 30 prominent economists from home and abroad, including the KIEP President Siwook Lee and Vice President Sungbae An, UN SDSN Vice President for Asia Wing Thye Woo, ERIA Chief Economist Fukunari Kimura, Asian Development Bank Institute’s Dean Dr. Tetsushi Sonobe, Professor Liming Wang of University College Dublin, Professor Kwanho Shin of Korea University, Professor Jungsoo Park of Sogang University attended this seminar to discuss various economic issues.
