The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and the Korea-Arab Society (KAS) jointly hosted the "Korea-MENA Food and Energy Security Seminar" on November 1, 2023, starting at 1:30 PM in the KITA Conference Room. This seminar aims to assess the challenges of food security and energy transition  in the Middle East , and  to develop strategies for cooperation between Korea and the Middle East.

Mr. Chul Chung, Senior Vice President for External Affairs Chul Chung at KIEP, stated in his opening remarks that today's world is witnessing increased uncertainty and global changes due to international conflicts. He stressed the need for Korea and the Middle East to diversify and strengthen their cooperation at a time when food and energy security are becoming increasingly important.

Session 1 was titled on "Climate Change in Korea and MENA Countries: Cooperation for Food Security" and featured Head Moon-soo Kang of the KIEP Africa-Middle East Team, along with Professor Kang Seok Kim from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Professor Nabia Bouzouita from the University of Carthage, and Associate Research Fellow Yoon-Jae Ro of KIEP’s India and South Asia Team  as speakers.

Session 2 focused on  "Korea-Middle East Cooperation for Energy Transition" and featured Professor Moamen Gouda of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, along with Professor Adel Ben Yousef from Cote d'Azur University, Professor Hala Abou-Ali from Cairo University, Senior Researcher Kwang-Ho Ryou of the Africa and the Middle East Team at KIEP, and Professor Li-Chen Sim of the Khalifa University.
