The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) hosted a forum with the theme "Leveling up the Korea-Canada Partnership: Defining challenges and opportunities" from October 25th to 27th, 2023, at Lotte Hotel Seoul. Co-hosted by KIEP and the Seoul Forum for International Affairs (SFIA), the forum provided a platform to discuss ways to advance and strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Korea and Canada on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as agreed upon by their leaders.

The forum consisted of a total of six sessions with topics such as "Korea-Canada Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," "Regional Cooperation: Indo-Pacific and the North Pacific," "Korea-Canada Economic Perspectives: Prospects of Bilateral Partnership," "Challenges and Opportunities in New Emerging Technologies: Future Trends and Areas of Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence," "Korea-Canada Cooperation on Energy Security," and "New Challenges: Strategies for Joint Cooperation."

Dr. Gu-Sang Kang, head of KIEP's Americas Team, presented and led discussions on the topic of "Korea-Canada Cooperation in Key Supply Chain Areas" in the third session, which focused on the economic outlook of both countries.

Mr. Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin and Mr. Lee Hong-Koo, Chairman of the Seoul Forum for International Affairs (former Prime Minister), attended this international forum to convey their congratulations. Various experts from both countries participated in areas such as economic cooperation, artificial intelligence, and energy security, sharing the current status of Korea and Canada and seeking ways to expand mutual cooperation.
