The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) hosted an international seminar on "New Directions in Future-Oriented South Korea-China Economic and Trade Cooperation" in Beijing, China, on October 25, 2023. This seminar was jointly organized by KIEP and the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) with the aim of promoting research cooperation and exchanges between the core national research institutions of the two countries.

The forum, which began with opening remarks byKIEP’s Senior Vice President for External Affairs Chul Chung, and CAITEC’s Deputy Director Yu Zirong, was divided into three main thematic sessions. Senior Vice President Chul Chung emphasized the need to elevate the paradigm of cooperation for the creation of a stable global trade environment, which both Korea and China seek, in the context of changing global trade dynamics and increasing global competition driven by economic nationalism.

In the first session, Senior Research Fellow Seung Shin Lee of KIEP's Chinese Economy and Trade Team, gave a presentation on the theme of "Future-oriented Directions for Korea-China Economic Cooperation." In the second session, Nok Young Kim, Director of Carbon Neutral Center at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), discussed "Korea's Carbon Neutrality Progress and Opportunities for Civil Cooperation with China." Finally, in the third session, Won Seok Choi, Associate Research Fellow of KIEP's Economic Security Team, presented on "Korea-China Regional Cooperation for Climate Change Mitigation."

Participants in this international seminar included Nok Young Kim, Director of the Carbon Neutral Center at the Korea Chamber of Commerceand Industry (KCCI), and leading researchers from KIEP and CAITEC. They came together to discuss and explore ways to enhance mutual cooperation between South Korea and China.
