The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a visiting scholar’s seminar with Dr. Saheli Chattaraj from Somaiya Vidyavihar University, India at the KIEP conference room in Sejong on June 29, 2023. Dr. Saheli Chattaraj has participated in the KIEP Visiting Scholars Program for one month. The seminar was organized to share results of research activity conducted over her visiting period, jointly with other researchers at KIEP. 

Dr. Saheli Chattaraj presented her ongoing project, “Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy: Implications for Bilateral Cooperation between India and South Korea”, in this seminar. Dr. Chattaraj explained the importance of Indo-Pacific region emerging as the new focal point of international affairs, and Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, which built on the idea of expanding Korea’s strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region on issues involving bilateral, regional and global affairs. She also examined bilateral cooperation in fields of maritime, economic, security, education, science and technology. Moreover, she suggested potential areas of cooperation with India: Space Cooperation, Health Technology, Iron and Steel, and Consumer and Agricultural Products. 

KIEP experts including Dr. Kwon Hyung Lee, Deputy President of Center for Area Studies, Dr. Jeong Gon Kim and Dr. Kyunghoon Kim from India and South Asia Team attended the seminar and discussed the findings covered in the presentation.
