The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held the 2021 KIEP-The Northeast Asian Economic Association of Korea Joint Winter International Conference in joint with the Northeast Asian Economic Association of Korea, at Dongeui University in Busan on February 20, 2021.

 

Under the theme of "The Pandemic Era: Seeking a New Paradigm for Growth and Cooperation in Northeast Asia," the international conference was held to discuss ways to grow and cooperate with countries in Northeast Asia in response to changes in the international environment caused by COVID-19.

 

President Heungchong Kim of KIEP said in a welcoming speech that uncertainties in the international community are rising due to the slowdown in economic growth, widening inequality, dilemma of economic recovery and quarantine, and readjustment of the global value chain (GVC). Furthermore, he stressed that countries in Northeast Asia should establish a network of personal and material cooperation in a different way than before and seek a new paradigm for growth.
