Recently the Korean government and companies have been seeking ways to manage geoeconomic risks amid the turbulent international situation following the U.S. presidential election and intensifying technological competition between the U.S. and China.

The event was designed to provide helpful insights to the government and businesses by examining the trends and prospects for expanding global trade security and industrial policies.

In his welcoming speech, President Siwook Lee of KIEP stated, “I hope that concrete and actionable countermeasures will be prepared for Korea’s economic security in the rapidly changing global environment.”

President Jeong-Meen Suh of KOSTI stressed the need for swift response in trade security policies and stronger corporate compliance if Korea is to turn the current crisis of trade and technology war into an opportunity.

The first session was chaired by Professor Yong Joon Jang of Kyunghee University, who presided over the presentation and discussion by experts under the theme “Trends and Issues in Export Control.”

The second session was moderated by Director Jaehan Cho of the Industrial Innovation Policy Division at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET), and continued with presentations and discussions on “Economic Security Trends and Supply Chains.”

About 60 experts from the government, related organizations, companies, and academia attended the seminar to analyze global trade security trends from various angles and discuss Korea's strategic response measures.
