The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) visited a farmhouse in Sejong on June 5th, 2024, to help farmers during the busy farming season of spring as a part of volunteer activities for the co-prosperity and development of both urban and rural regions.
Organized by the Sejong City Volunteer Center, "Lending a Helping Hand to Rural Communities" is a volunteer program that links employees of public institutions with farmhouses run by elderly or female farmers in need of working hands.
Twenty employees of KIEP visited the pear farm located in Geumnam-myeon, Sejong, and helped to wrap 2,000 pears with bags, an activity in line with the KIEP’s ESG management strategies - leading green innovation, strengthening public interest responsibility, and establishing a transparent management system. Furthermore, it was a meaningful time to promote the social value of volunteering and spread participatory culture as well.
In addition to volunteer work for urban and rural co-prosperity, KIEP plans to continue visiting farms and facilities in need of manpower and contribute to the coexistence and development of the region by matching necessary resources.
