The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) organized a meeting called the "KIEP-Associations of Area Studies Meeting" on April 20th, 2023. The meeting was held at 11:00 a.m. at the President Hotel Seoul and was attended by President Heungchong Kim of KIEP, Deputy President Kwon Hyung Lee of KIEP's Center for Area Studies, team heads of the center, and representatives from 19 regional study associations.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the operation plan for the upcoming "KIEP and Associations of Area Studies(KAAS) 2023" to be held in the second half of the year, as well as to share research issues of regional study associations.

During his opening remarks, President Heungchong Kim explained that the main theme of this year's academic conference is "Geopolitics and Global Responses in the Era of Economic Security." He expressed his hope to gain insight into strategies for responding to economic security at the regional and national levels. He also hoped that this meeting would be an important first step towards the successful hosting of the academic conference.

The team heads of KIEP's Center for Area Studies and representatives from the 19 regional study associations shared their major research topics for this year and discussed the importance of comprehensive and integrated regional studies in the era of economic security.
