President Kim Heungchong of KIEP attended the annual Allied Social Sciences Associations (ASSA) 2023 meeting held on January 6-8, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana. President Kim presented and discussed the 2023 world economic outlook at the KAEA Policy Forum held at the main conference, and also convened the KIEP-KAEA Forum jointly with the Korea-America Economic Association (KAEA) on the same day.

The ASSA 2023 Annual Meeting, which is organized by the American Economic Association (AEA), is the largest economic conference in the world. This event has been held online since the 2020 pandemic, but this year was held face-to-face again for the first time in three years.

President Heungchong Kim presented KIEP’s outlook on the 2023 world economy at the KAEA Policy Forum, forecasting that the global economic growth rate will remain at 2.4% this year from 3.1% last year, but diagnosed the global economy is likely to fall further.

In addition, KIEP and KAEA invited world-class global economists to the KIEP-KAEA Forum held under the theme of the "Trade Wars and Global Supply Chain Uncertainty."

The forum was attended by notable scholars such as Professor Pol Antras of Harvard University, Professor Stephen Redding of Princeton University, Professor Peter Schott of Yale University, Professor Lorenzo Caliendo of Yale University, and Professor E Young Song of Sogang University, and discussed trade disputes caused by the U.S.-China dispute and the Russia-Ukraine war, global supply chain uncertainties, and economic definitions of economic security.
