Financial Market Risk Factors and New Government Policy Issues under Global Inflation 1

The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a policy seminar at the Korea Federation of BANK in Seoul on May 26 (Thursday) under the theme of "Financial Market Risk Factors and New Government Policy Issues under Global Inflation."

Recently, the economic environment has changed rapidly due to the growth of the virtual asset market, and major countries are making a tightening transition due to severe inflation. In response, the seminar was designed to diagnose risk factors in the financial market and explore the newly launched government's policy tasks.

The seminar, which was jointly held with the Korea International Finance Association (KIFA) and the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF), started with the opening speech of Professor Sam-mo Kang. In the following, Vice-Chair Soyoung Kim of the Korea Financial Services Commission, President Jong-kyu Park of the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF), and Vice President Sung-Chun Jung of KIEP gave congratulatory addresses. Vice President Sung-Chun Jung pointed out that although we also need to tighten to cope with the U.S. Fed's continuous interest rate hikes and capital outflows, policy uncertainty is high as supply chain shocks such as the Ukraine crisis continue.

Participants discussed the impact of inflation and interest rate hikes in major countries and in-depth government policy directions to counter them. Director Sungbae An of the International Macroeconomics & Finance Dept pointed out that future policies should be made by reflecting factors such as policy lag and energy price trends under interest rate adjustment.
