The event was organized to respond to economic security, becoming more critical in the rapidly changing international situation. In particular, as economic security is a combination of international politics and economic issues, experts from the KIEP  and the Korean Association of International Studies gathered in one place to discuss economic and security risks intensifying in the U.S.-China strategic competition. The contents discussed at the event are expected to be used as an essential reference for establishing the newly launched Korean government's economic and security-related policies.

The seminar was attended by President Heungchong Kim of KIEP, Professor Sang-bae Kim of Seoul National University, also chair of the Korean Association of International Studies, and 19 experts from various fields from both organizations.

In a congratulatory speech, President Heungchong Kim of KIEP said, "Amid intensifying U.S.-China strategic competition, the international community is undergoing a major shift of digital/green transformation and globalization."

President Heungchong Kim of KIEP noted, "With the U.S.-China strategic competition expected to intensify externally ahead of the new government's inauguration, economic and security risks are increasing unprecedentedly due to the outbreak of the Ukrainian war." 

In addition, President Kim expressed, "It is necessary to maximize our national interests in response to this by combining a macro approach and microscopic analysis." President Kim also said, "We will continue to adopt a comprehensive approach to problem-solving by actively conducting interdisciplinary research in economics and various fields such as international political economy and security."
