The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a webinar on “Major Policy Directions of the 14th Five-Year Plan by Region and Korea-China Cooperation” on August 27, 2021, at the Lotte Hotel Seoul. 

This webinar was convened to examine the paradigm change and development direction of the Chinese economy by analyzing major policies and cases of the 14th Five-Year Plan (FYP) by regions of China, and to seek ways to cooperate between Korea and China.

Based on digital transformation and scientific and technological innovation, China is pushing for stronger national competitiveness and regional economic development during the 14th FYP period. In particular, China is looking for ways to apply digital technology into the existing manufacturing industries and foster strategic new industries by region, as well as seeking external cooperation in the digital domain, such as facilitating cross-border e-commerce customs clearance and establishing pilot polices in the digital trade sector.

In his opening speech, Sung-Chun Jung, Vice President of KIEP, emphasized the meaning of the webinar, which was held to discuss future-oriented cooperation together despite the severe circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing uncertainties in the global trade environment.

The webinar was attended by Sung-Chun Jung, Vice President of KIEP, Shaoan Huang, the Dean of the Center for Economic Research of Shandong University, Jiang YuanYuan, Associate Research Fellow of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang WanQiang, Director of the Liaoning Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Ding Yao, Researcher of the Chongqing Comprehensive Economic Research Institute, and experts on the regions.
