The 17th Trilateral Workshop of KIEP-PRI-CASS

The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), in collaboration with the Policy Research Institute (PRI) of the Ministry of Finance in Japan and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), hosted the 17th Trilateral Workshop of KIEP-PRI-CASS on November 22nd, 2024 at the Hotel President in Seoul.
The event consisted of three sessions, beginning with opening speeches by Chief Economist and Senior Vice President Sungbae An of KIEP, President Komiya Yoshiyuki of PRI, and Deputy Director LI Haijian of CASS.
In his opening remarks, Senior Vice President Sungbae An of KIEP emphasized that amid the global high interest rates and economic recession, South Korea, China, and Japan must balance long- and short-term tasks and strengthen cooperation to overcome structural growth constraints and secure new growth engines.
In the following sessions, experts discussed economic and potential GDP trends, productivity trends, policy challenges, and debt sustainability in each country.
Dr. Jiyeon Kim of the Korea Development Institute (KDI), Economist Sung-o Na of the Bank of Korea, Professor Hyunbae Chun of the Sogang University, and prominent researchers from KIEP, PRI, and CASS attended the workshop to share various opinions on ways to broaden trilateral cooperation among South Korea, China, and Japan.
