The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) hosted the "KIEP-SASS Korea-China International Seminar" on the theme of "Korea-China Cooperation in the Era of Global Economic Transition" at 9:00 a.m. on November 22, 2023at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. This seminar aimed to share insights on the changing global economic governance of Korea and China and to set a milestone for new cooperation between the two countries.

The event, which began with opening remarks by Deputy President Kwon Hyung Lee of the Center for Area Studies, and Secretary of the SASS CPC Committee Quan Heng, as well as a congratulatory speech by Consul General Young Joon Kim of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, was divided into two main thematic sessions. 

Deputy President Kwon Hyung Lee of KIEP, emphasized in his opening remarks the importance of sharing views on the global economy between Korea and China, especially in light of the challenges of climate change and green transition that both countries are facing. He stressed the need to explore practical cooperation in these areas.

The first session, titled “Global Economic Governance and Regional Economic Cooperation,” chaired by Pyeong Seob Yang, Senior Research Fellow at KIEP's Chinese Regional Strategy Team, and featured a presentation by Nakgyoon Choi, Advisory Fellow at KIEP's Center for Global Area Studies, on the topic of “Reorganization of the Global Trade Order and Korea's Response.”

In the second session, which focused on “Korea-China Cooperation in the Green and Low-Carbon Sectors,” Ji Young Moon, Head of KIEP's Chinese Economy and Trade Team, gave a presentation on “Characteristics of Korea-China Green Finance and Cooperation.”

Professor Pilsoo Choi of Sejong University's Department of Chinese Trade and Jae-hyeon Park, Director of the China Office at the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, were among the prominent speakers at the international seminar. Researchers from both KIEP and SASS actively participated in discussions, aiming to enhance mutual understanding and engage in in-depth discussions on a forward-looking model for Korea-China cooperation.
