The CEAPCS was established to conduct comprehensive policy analysis and high-level research on key issues related to peace and cooperation in East Asia. Its research focuses on multidisciplinary perspectives, including bilateral relations and common issues within East Asia, such as China, Russia, North Korea, and the United States.

At the signing ceremony, Director Sachio Nakato expressed his expectations for active academic exchange between the two institutions, stating that it could contribute not only to improving relations between South Korea and Japan but also to peace and prosperity in East Asia.  Deputy President Kwang Hyung Lee also expressed his anticipation for the development of research on economic security in East Asia and South Korea-Japan relations through strengthened cooperation between the two specialized research institutions.

Moving forward, the two organizations plan to cooperate through joint research, seminars, and exchange of research information and personnel. On the occasion of the MOU signing, Japanese participants also had an opportunity to exchange views with Vice President Sung-Chun Jung and KIEP researchers from the Japan and East Asia Team.
