The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a visiting scholar’s seminar with Dr. Leonardo Paz Neves from International Intelligence Unit, Getulio Vargas Foundation, Brazil at the KIEP conference room in Sejong on February 2, 2023. Dr. Neves has participated in the KIEP Visiting Scholars Program for one month. The seminar was organized to share results of research activity conducted over his visiting period, jointly with other researchers at KIEP. 

Dr. Neves presented his ongoing project, “Catch-up and Leapfrog Strategies for Developing Countries: Making a Case for a Social Spring”, in this seminar. The study explores paradigm shift of our time in many areas including productive, labor, social, economic, health, etc. and social spring policies. He emphasizes that set of social policies that should be implemented beforehand and during the process of economic growth, for their implementation have significant collateral benefit for the economy. 

KIEP experts including Dr. Kwon Hyung Lee, Deputy President of Center for Area Studies, Dr. Seungho Lee and Sungwoo Hong, Associate Research Fellows, and Ms. Misook Park, Senior Researcher from Americas Team, attended the seminar and discussed the findings covered in the presentation.
