The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a visiting scholar’s seminar with Dr. Inero Ancho from University of the Philippines Los Baños, Philippines at the KIEP conference room in Sejong on February 6, 2023. Dr. Ancho has participated in the KIEP Visiting Scholars Program for one month. The seminar was organized to share results of research activity conducted over his visiting period, jointly with other researchers at KIEP. 

Dr. Ancho presented his ongoing project, “Korea’s Official Development Assistance to the Philippine Education Sector: Observations and Inputs”, in this seminar. The study explores the Philippine development plan, grants and loans from Korea to the Philippines, and observations and inputs, and so on. The Philippine government aims to ensure effective ODA and provide focus and ways forward towards access to and quality of education, along with programs and projects that contribute into any meaningful development of the Philippine economy. He emphasizes that contribution to human development dimensions could affect income, labor market participation, health, and well-being. Therefore, ODA supporting human development, particularly the education sector, generates support towards socio-economic development. 

KIEP experts including Dr. Nam Seok Kim, Associate Research Fellow from Southeast Asia and Oceania Team, Dr. Eunsuk Lee and Dr. Gee Young Oh, Associate Research Fellows from Development Evaluation Team, and Dr. Jeonghwan Yun, Associate Research Fellow from Policy Analysis Team, attended the seminar and discussed the findings covered in the presentation.
