The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held the 2022 KIEP and Associations of Area Studies Conference (2022 KAAS Conference), jointly hosted by 17 Associations of Area Studies on October 21, under the theme of "Emerging Economies in the Great Transformation: Challenges and Tasks."


KIEP has been holding the annual KAAS Conference since 2014 to spread essential findings in the area of regional studies and expand networks between domestic and foreign experts. 


Marking its ninth anniversary this year, the 2022 KAAS Conference was hosted at the Sono Calm Yeosu, expanding the base of area studies into the local community.


Vice President Sung-Chun Jung of KIEP said in his opening speech that the international community is facing a major turning point in politics, economy, and society amid prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and global economic instability, and he sincerely hopes that today's conference will be a meaningful forum for Korea and many emerging countries to take a step forward.


Vice President Sung-Chun Jung of KIEP, President Sung-taek Chung of Chonnam National University, Chair Jae-sung Kwak of Chair of the Korea Academic Association of Latin American Studies, Chair Dongjoo Choi of the Korea Academic Association of African Studies attended the opening ceremony of the event. President Moon-sun Kang of the Graduate School of International Studies at Korea University, President Young-min Kim of LG Business Research Institute, Dr. Jung-ho Park at KIEP, President Jung-seung Shin of Dongseo University's East Asian Research Institute attended the following session to discuss the theme of "Reorganization of the world order after the Russian-Ukraine War and the possibility of economic crisis in emerging countries".
