Hosted by the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (NRC) and organized by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and Seoul National University Institute for Japanese Studies, the International Symposium on Korea-Japan Relations and Future Cooperation was held online and offline at 10 a.m. on September 1, 2022 (Thu).

After Japan's export restrictions to Korea in July 2019, the scope of pending issues between Korea and Japan has been expanded to history, economy, diplomacy, and security. However, with the launch of a new regime in both Korea and Japan, it is time to establish a new future cooperative relationship that meets common interests and values.

Accordingly, experts from both Korea and Japan gathered to explore ways to develop mutually beneficial future relations as responsible advanced countries, based on international peace and prosperity realized through governmental and non-governmental cooperation between the two nations.

The event was attended by experts from both countries, including Chairperson Jung Hae-Gu of the NRC, Vice President Sung-Chun Jung of KIEP, Director Hyun-Chul Kim of the Institute for Japanese Studies of Seoul National University, Former Ambassador Su-Hoon Lee of the ROK to  Japan, Professor Emeritus Sang-Yong Choi of Korea University, Professor Emeritus Okonomi Masao of Keio University, Senior Fellow Mary E. Lovely of the PIIE, Professor Elizabeth Thurbon of the University of New South Wales, and Principal Research Fellow Peng Er Lam of the National University of Singapore.
