In this seminar, KIEP looked back on the achievements of economic, social cooperation and cultural cooperation between Korea and Vietnam and predicted future bilateral cooperation strategies.

President KIM Heungchong of KIEP stressed that bilateral cooperation has developed dramatically between Korea and Vietnam since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, during which Vietnam has emerged as Korea's fourth largest trading partner, fifth largest investor, and largest development cooperation partner. He diagnosed that cooperation in the social and cultural sectors is expanding rapidly, but is relatively sluggish compared to the economic sector. He also expressed his hopes that the bilateral relation will be upgraded to a “comprehensive strategic partnership” this year, which marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties, based on balanced strengthening of cooperation. 

Experts from both countries gathered together to explore cooperation principles and present a vision for cooperation for the coming 30 years. The seminar included sessions on Economic Cooperation, Social Sector Cooperation, Cultural Sector Cooperation and Suggestions for the Advancement of Cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.
