The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), Korea-Arab Society (KAS) and UAE Embassy in Seoul jointly held the Korea-Arab Food Security Forum 2022, under the title of “Korea-Arab cooperative approach to food security in uncertain times” on August 25, 2022 at the KITA Conference Hall. This forum was a part of the economic security seminar series conducted by KIEP.

In this forum, KIEP reviewed food security crisis and policies of major Arab countries and discussed new cooperation measures to promote a diversified cooperative partnership between Korea and Arab countries, including smart agriculture.

In his welcoming speech, President KIM Heungchong of KIEP mentioned, “Unstable grain supply and demand due to the Russia-Ukraine war and reduced productivity due to climate change may cause increased uncertainty in regions that are highly dependent on foreign grain imports, such as Korea and Arab countries.” He also said, “We need to respond to food security crises in both regions by fostering smart agricultural companies using Korea’s ICT technology.” 

Experts shared their views and discussed on the themes of “Economic Instability and Food Security,” and “Korea-Arab Food Security Future Cooperation Initiative” throughout the forum.
