The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a visiting scholar’s seminar with Dr. Truong Quang Hoan from Institute for Southeast Asian Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences at the KIEP conference room in Sejong on August 18, 2022. Dr. Truong Quang Hoan has participated in the KIEP Visiting Scholars Program for a month. The seminar was organized to share results of research activity conducted over his visiting period, jointly with other researchers at KIEP. 

Dr. Truong Quang Hoan made a presentation on “Vietnam’s Participation in Global Value Chains (GVCs) and Policy Implications for South Korea-Vietnam Economic Cooperation” and examined overview of Vietnam’s economic integration in the world economy, the situation and challenges of Vietnam’s GVC participation, and recent trends in Vietnam-Korea economic relations and implications for cooperation in GVCs. He stressed that Vietnam and Korea should focus on facilitating local firms’ entry into GVCs by improving the drivers of investment, especially the functioning of market institutions, and by improving the functioning and quality of the domestic segment of value chains and the quality of service inputs.

KIEP experts including Dr. Seung Jin Cho, Ms. Mingeum Shin and Nayoun Park, Mr. Jegook Kim, from Southeast Asia and Oceania Team, attended the seminar and discussed the findings covered in the presentation.
