The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held the "2022 KIEP Northern Policy Seminar" on July 29th, 2022 (Fri) at the Vertex Korea Business Center under the theme of "Key Issues and Prospects of the International Order After the Ukrainian War."

The war in Ukraine and Russia-U.S. conflict which began in February this year have brought a sense of crisis to the entire global economy and security environment. The war has led to various issues, including the strengthening of U.S.-led Atlantic alliance, worsening relations with Russia and the U.S. and Europe, security crisis within Europe and subsequent increase in military budgets, changes in energy international relations due to Europe's reduced dependence on Russia, and deepening food crisis and inflation.

Experts from the northern region attended the seminar to examine major issues of the international order after the Ukraine war and comprehensively grasp the perspectives of major countries such as the United States, China, Russia, Europe, and Japan to derive policy implications for establishing Korea's international strategy.

President Heungchong Kim of KIEP stressed that the seminar had helped to derive policy implications for Korea’s foreign policy direction through a diagnosis of the current state of international order and the global economy from the perspective of major economies such as the U.S., China, Russia, EU and Japan, following the war in Ukraine.
