The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a visiting scholar’s seminar with Dr. Wei Wenfeng from China Institute for Reform and Development, China at the KIEP conference room in Sejong on August 3, 2022. Dr. Wei Wenfeng has participated in the KIEP Visiting Scholars Program for a month. The seminar was organized to share outcomes of research conducted over his visiting period, jointly with other researchers at KIEP. 

Dr. Wei Wenfeng made a presentation on “Understanding Hainan Free Trade Port (HNFTP): China’s Efforts to Explore High-level Opening-up” and examined characteristics of HNFTP, china’s special economic zone, policy direction of China, etc. He claims that we should always be optimistic that China will not stop its efforts to press forward reform and opening, from a medium- and long-term perspective. Moreover, it takes time for HNFTP to develop, take shape and become successful, and it also needs constructive engagement and interaction of the international community to assist and jointly steer its development conducive to realize our common interests. 

KIEP experts including Dr. Moon Ji Young from Chinese Economy and Trade Team, Ms. Hong Won Kim from China Region and Strategy Team, and Dr. Jin Kyo Suh from Trade Agreement Team, attended the seminar and discussed the findings covered in the presentation.
