Population Dynamics in India: Navigating the Opportunities and Challenges of Demographic Transition
- Author Yoon Jae Ro
- Series263
- Date2023-05-09
India's population has recently surpassed China's and is projected to reach 1.4 billion in 2023. India's significant demographic dividend is attributed to its youthful population, with over 40% of the population under 25, providing the potential to accelerate economic growth. However, this growth also poses challenges, including the need for job creation, improvement in education and human capital, and addressing poverty and inequality. India's policymakers have implemented various measures, such as Make in India, Digital India, and Skill India, to promote employment and entrepreneurship, but there is still a long way to go to fully realize India's demographic dividend and ensure inclusive growth.
