This paper focuses on assessing the Chinese special economic zones that have played a central role in China's foreign open policy since the 1980s, suggesting some political implications for the economic development hereafter.

Together, through such analyses, some useful strategies and devices are offered for Korean companies hoping to enter China's domestic market.

This paper is organized as follows: Section 1 will explain the purpose of this paper. Section 2 and 3 will analyze the Chinese special economic zones in connection with foreign open policy by characteristic. Section 4 will assess the strategy of Chinese special economic zones and its result. Section 5 will review the Chinese foreign direct investment policy. Section 6 will deal with Korean companies entering China's domestic market. Finally, Section 7 will summarize the situation and present Korea's strategy for Korea-China economic cooperation.
