The European Union (EU) has been one of the most important members of the global trading system. The trade policy of the EU has therefore been the crucial element to construct the structure of the GATT/WTO system. In that regard, the 'New Trade Policy' announced in October 2006 set forth new policy paradigms for the EU and reflects various changes in the international trade environment. This paper reviews the 'New Trade Policy' from the perspective of the North America, especially the United States, and tries to draw some implications for multilateral as well as transatlantic economic relationships.
