It has been more than one year since the signing of the State Treaty of Monetary, Economic and Social Union between East and West Germany, providing the grounds for German unification. Contrary to initial hopes and expectations, the economic performance of former East Germany has continued to experience great difficulties. In order to minimize the economic impact and problems during and after the unification of the two Korean economies, it is essential to study the progress of German unification.
Accordingly, this paper evaluates the German unification from an economic perspective, exploring directions for possible unification on the Korean peninsula.
