Regional Integration in Europe and Asia Compared

  • Hit2,822
Invitation
Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, EU Studies Association-KOREA and Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University are jointly organizing an International Conference on the “Regional Integration in Europe and Asia Compared”.

Regional integration is today one of the most debated issues in East Asia. Even though there are noregional political and economic arrangements comparable to those existing in the European Communities, East Asia is not really far behind Europe in terms of its economic interdependence. From a European perspective, stimulating regional cooperation outside Europe in general, and in Asia
inparticular, is one of the key priorities of the EU ‘new Asia strategy’ defined in the 1990s.

This conference is thus intended to examine and compare the integration process both in Europe andin Asia, and, to draw some possible lessons for East Asia in the light of the European experience whichculminated with the establishment of the economic and monetary union.

Leading experts and scholars in Asia and Europe will be brought together to discuss this issue. We aresure it will contribute to deepening the mutual understandings of the regional integration process in two continents.

Looking forward to a gathering fruitful not only for academics, but also for persons of practical interests, we sincerely hope to see you in the conference.

Yours
sincerely
