Headline inflation increased for the first time in seven months in August, fueled by high food and fuel inflation. The Philippines registered a smaller current account deficit in H1 2023, led by strong services exports and the narrowing of the trade deficit. Leading indicators in services and manufacturing suggest continued weakness in domestic demand. The cumulative fiscal deficit narrowed in July amid robust revenue growth. Labor markets conditions worsened in August, as both unemployment and underemployment rose.
