Pakistan, under the influence of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), shifted its focus from “Geo-Strategy” to “Geo-Economics,” particularly highlighting its maritime potential. Former PM Imran Khan’s designation of 2020 as the Year of Blue Economy indicated a commitment to securitize the sea. Using the Copenhagen School’s framework, this study examines Pakistan’s initial steps in securitizing the maritime domain. Despite significant efforts, the outcome suggests a partial securitization, mainly marked by politicization rather than a comprehensive securitization of the maritime sector.
