The Indian media revealed a leaked excerpt from Sheikh Hasina’s undelivered speech, in which the former Bangladesh Prime Minister allegedly accuses the United States (US) of conspiring to remove her from power (Seli 2024). According to the leaked content, Hasina claims that she rebuffed a US request to relinquish control of Saint Martin’s Island, a strategically significant territory in the Bay of Bengal. Hasina’s suspicion of US involvement in the at­­tempts to remove her from power is hardly unprecedented.
