Bhutan’s fourth National Assembly elections were held in two rounds on 30 November 2023 and 9 January 2024. For a small landlocked country near the Himalayas that transited from a monarchy to a parliamentary government in 2008, the peaceful conduct of elections with the active participation of eligible voters is a significant accomplishment. It manifested the people’s faith in the continuation of parliamentary democracy under the guidance of a constitutional monarchy.
