Foreign exchange reserves are rapidly declining, the rupee is losing value, and macroeconomic signals are pointing to a downward trend for Pakistan’s economy. With the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) foreign exchange reserves falling by another $245 million to a severely critical level of $5.58 billion on Thursday, Pakistan’s economy is reportedly facing one of its worst crises in decades. Since April 2014, this is the lowest number of reserves kept by the SBP. There has been concern in the market that this figure will continue to drop as Pakistan makes payments on its loans.
