Venezuela has experienced a profound crisis encompassing civil and political rights, as well as economic, social, and cultural rights. Amidst this conflict and the resulting protests, several international initiatives were launched to document events in the country. However, another grim reality remained largely unnoticed: extrajudicial killings occurring in impoverished areas, which, in the end, often targeted Afrodescendant people and dark-skinned individuals. This study will examine the background and prevalence of racial and poverty-based discrimination, as well as extrajudicial killings perpetrated against these vulnerable groups within Venezuelan society, all under the umbrella of state-terrorism practices. Finally, it will review how the mechanisms of transitional justice can be reimagined to address the commission of these crimes in Venezuela.
