Rethinking ASEM in the Era of Neo-Protectionism

As John Keynes argued in 1945, multilateralism and free trade are essential elements for economic prosperity. Therefore, the approaching ASEM Summit meeting in Brussels, 19 October, makes an ideal venue for advocating multilateralism and free trade, which ASEM has cherished for the last 22 years as one of its main principles since its establishment, against the emergence of protectionism. The 2018 APEC and G20 in December will follow the ASEM Summits in achieving these goals.
