The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) and Korea Economic Institute of America (KEI) co-hosted a webinar on “The Biden Administration: Strategies for the Korean Peninsula,” on January 20, 2021, at the Sejong National Research Complex.


Twelve experts were invited offline and online to discuss the potential alliance and North Korea policies of the United States following the launch of the Biden administration.


The webinar started off with opening remarks by Heungchong Kim, President of KIEP, and congratulatory remarks by Kathleen Stephens, President of KEI.


Markus Garlauskas, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council; Bong-Geun Jun, Professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy; Daniel Russel, Vice-President of the Asia Society Policy Institute; Ed Royce, former Chairman of the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs were presenters to speak about the North Korea policies of the Biden and the Moon administration, North Korean nuclear issues, Korea-U.S. alliance, and political environment under the Biden administration.


Christopher Hill, former U.S. Ambassador to Republic of Korea; Scott Snyder, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations; Seong-hyun Lee, Director of the Center for Chinese Studies at Sejong Institute; Hyun-Wook Kim, Professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy; Heung-Kyu Kim, Professor at Ajou University; and Jangho Choi, Head of the International Cooperation for Korean Unification Team at KIEP participated as discussants.


Experts from the U.S. and Korea exchanged their views about security issues on the Korean Peninsula and future prospects for policy changes in the region.
