The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) held a "Korea-US Energy Security Dialogue" on July 27, 2022 at the Westin Josun Hotel in Seoul with the Global America Business Institute (GABI) in Washington, DC.

KIEP and GABI organized this event to seek comprehensive cooperation in related areas as the need for cooperation in the energy security sector has increased significantly due to rapidly changing international conditions. The meeting was the fifth this year in KIEP’s Economic Security Seminar Series.

Experts including President Heungchong Kim of KIEP, President Florence Lowe-Lee of GABI, the Honorable Cheol-soo Ahn of the Member of the National Assembly, President  Sang-hyun Lee of the  Sejong Institute, Professor David Gattie of the University of Georgia, and Professor Chung Yong-hoon of KAIST attended the event as speakers.

President Heungchong Kim of KIEP said in his opening speech that the importance of energy security is becoming more prominent due to the instability of the global energy supply chain triggered by the Ukraine-Russia war and the climate crisis.

President Heungchong Kim stressed that the seminar was a meaningful place to set goals for energy security policies that can simultaneously pursue two goals - carbon neutrality and stability of the global energy supply chain - and discuss nuclear energy cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. as a way to realize these goals.
