KIEP held the seminar to respond to rapid changes in the international environment due to the Ukrainian war, U.S.-China conflict, and climate change, and to contribute to the "Korean version of the Indo-Pacific Strategy“ newly announced by the Korean government.

In the first session, President Heungchong Kim of KIEP delivered a presentation on "Korea's Indo-Pacific Strategic Initiative and the Direction of Korea's Foreign Cooperation."

President Kim said that Korea should align itself with other countries that share values with Korea, such as the U.S., the EU, Japan, and Australia, and stressed the need to upgrade cooperation with ASEAN, India, and Central and South America. President Kim explained this as the spatial boundaries of the Korean version of the Indo-Pacific Strategy and introduced the concept of a “W-curve” formed by participating countries.

The second session was chaired by President Heungchong Kim, followed by presentations and discussions seeking cooperation measures in various sectors such as supply chains, digital, energy, climate change, and culture in the Indo-Pacific region.

This seminar marked the fourth on economic security held by KIEP in 2022.
