This paper looks at insider trading within conglomerates as a part of unfair management, making some policy recommendations on the economic activities of Korean conglomerates.
This paper is organized as follows. Section I raises questions related to conglomerates in the Korean economy, focusing on competition policy. Based on these observances, Section II deals with the management of Korean conglomerates. Section III conducts empirical analyses to find out the negative relationships among conglomerates. Finally, based upon the empirical results, we will discuss the policy implications for the economic activities of Korean conglomerates. -

AFTA, the largest international economic cooperative effort in the world, is characterized by its large capacity and latent purchasing power. As ASEAN member economies developed, they became important trade partners for Korea, accounting for 19.4 percent of Korea's overseas direct investment and 10.2 percent of Korea's total trade in 1994.
However, due to the limited size of the integrated market, the vulnerability of the industrial structure may impede economic cooperation between Korea and ASEAN. In particular, AFTA's common effective preferential tariffs are far from ideal.
Nevertheless, this report predicts that although AFTA will face short-term restrictions in its trade, it has a bright future for integration.
