The State of U.S.-South Korea Defense Cooperation

Join us for an exclusive event on U.S.-South Korea defense cooperation Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 at the Korea Economic Institute of America.

U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed the longstanding security partnership at their recent summit and emphasized the need for measures to reduce tension with North Korea.

But regional security challenges continue to grow, and there are lingering questions regarding the “strategic flexibility” of U.S. forces in South Korea, tangible steps to modernize the alliance, and the trajectory of defense- and burden-sharing discussions.

A distinguished panel of experts will examine the present and future U.S.–South Korea security relationship under the Trump and Lee administrations.
